One of Those

In a recent conversation the term “Global Warming” came up. I asked if that was based on the same science as when it was said in 1922 that New York City would be underwater because of the melting ice caps. Or in the late seventies, early eighties when we were on the verge of an ice age? The reply was “oh your one of those”.

I am one of those. When I shop for groceries I make sure the food is non-GMO. GMO food has been genetically modified to survive excessive amounts of weed killer. It kills the weeds (until they adapt, but that’s another story) but it also kills the ground. Of course then that stuff goes into the water table, or runs off further destroying the environment, not to mention the wild life down stream.

I’m one of those that when I buy meat, make sure it’s free range or pasture raised and not CAFO. Most meat in the markets these day come from Confined Animal Feeding Operations, where they crowd the animals in so tight that they hardly have room to turn around. All the while feeding them GMO feed. Of course too many animals in one spot create a lot of waste, most of which either ends up in the water table or runs off causing more problems down stream. Maybe that’s why the government makes it illegal to take pictures of CAFO sites.

I’m one of those who doesn’t use any chemicals to clean my house. Most household cleaners have some very strong and dangerous chemicals. I have found very few stains that baking soda won’t take out. When you wash the chemicals down the drain, no matter what type of waste system you have it eventually ends up in the environment.

I’m one of those who doesn’t use any commercial/chemical weed killer on my property. For all the reasons already stated. If I can’t control weeds with natural products, then I’ll just put up with them and keep them mowed.

I have found that if you don’t agree with the politically correct crowd they say you just don’t care about solving any of the problems. I’m one of those who thinks the answer is with each individual. Not some government program in which the underlying purpose is control. As opposed to it’s stated feel good sounding name. When we each become responsible for our own actions, then maybe some progress can be made solving the problems, but then I am “one of those”.
